CPS Daycare Program

Our before- and after-school program provides a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for CPS students ages 4 to 12. We focus on giving each child the resources and support they need to grow, learn, and have fun outside of regular school hours.

Hours

School Days

  • Morning: 6:45 to 7:45 a.m.
  • Lunch – Kindergarten (K4 & K5): 11:17 a.m. to 12:35 p.m.
  • Lunch – Grades 1 to 6: 11:35 a.m. to 12:35 p.m.
  • After school: 2:35 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Pedagogical Days 

  • 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Staff-to-Student Ratios

Quebec’s Ministry of Education provides the following ratio for school daycares

  • K4
    • One educator for every 17 children.
  • K5 to Grade 6
    • One educator for every 20 children.

Note that there are always at least two staff members present during daycare hours for the safety and security of our students.

Daily Activities & Curriculum

Arts & Crafts

Each week, your child will have the opportunity to explore their creativity through engaging arts and crafts activities.


Special Events

Throughout the year, your child can take part in experiences such as outings on Pedagogical Days, seasonal projects, and holiday celebrations.


Active Play

Your child will enjoy a balance of indoor gym time, outdoor free play, and age-appropriate structured activities that keep them active and engaged.


Homework & Quiet Time

From 4:15 to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Thursday, your child has a calm period to focus on homework, read, or enjoy quiet activities like colouring.


 

Attendance and Fee Structure

Regular Status

Your child is considered to have regular status if they are registered for 1–5 days per week and attend at least two periods per day (for example: morning and lunch, or lunch and afternoon).

  • Morning $9.50 per day
  • Afternoon $9.50 per day
  • Lunch $1.00 per school day (charged daily, even if your child is registered for fewer than 5 days)

Sporadic Status

Your child is considered to have sporadic status if they are registered for only one period per day (morning, lunch, or afternoon) on a weekly basis. Attendance depends on space being available and daycare ratios being respected.

  • Morning $3.15 per hour, up to a maximum of $9.50
  • Lunch $1.00 per day
  • Afternoon $3.15 per hour, up to a maximum of $9.50

Occasional Status

Your child is considered to have occasional status if they attend only on an emergency basis. – Requests must be made at least 24 hours in advance, and attendance depends on space being available and daycare ratios being respected.

  • Morning $3.15 per hour, up to a maximum of $9.50
  • Lunch $1.00 per day
  • Afternoon $3.15 per hour, up to a maximum of $9.50
  • Morning + Afternoon (same day): $9.50 total

Other Fees
  • Extra hours $3.15 per child if your child stays more than 5 hours on a regular school day, or more than 10 hours on a pedagogical day.
  • Late pick-up $1.00 per minute per family after 6:00 p.m. After three late pick-ups, daycare may refuse further service.
  • NSF cheques $20.00 fee. After one NSF, payment must be made in cash or online.

Pedagogical Days
  • Cost $12.00 per day (maximum $16.20) Fees follow the government rate and require Governing Board approval. Extra fees may apply for outings or special activities.
  • Minimum registration is required 15 children are required for daycare to operate.
  • Registration  You must register your child during the pedagogical registration period. Full payment required at registration.
  • Refunds for outings or activities require at least one week’s notice.
  • Maximum Hours – 10 hours per ped day; extra time billed.
  • Misbehaviour Students who do not follow the code of conduct may lose the privilege of attending future ped day activities.

 

Payments

For Regular Daycare Students
  • Statements are available monthly through your Parent Portal.
  • Payments are due the first Friday of each month.
  • Cash, cheque, or online bill payments are accepted.
  • Cheques payable to New Frontiers School Board (NFSB); include your child’s name and file number. 
  • You will be notified before deposits are made.

For Sporadic and Occasional Daycare Students 
  • Statements are sent after services are provided.

General Info – Payments
  • Billing is based on your child’s reservation, not attendance.
  • Overdue accounts may result in referral to the Principal or collections, and daycare services may be suspended.
  • Joint custody arrangements can be accommodated.
  • Make sure to double-check your Parent Reference Number when making online payments
  • Separate payments are required for each child

Tax Receipts

• Tax receipts are issued in February through your Parent Portal.
• We require a social insurance number, unless a written exemption has been provided.
• Receipts are issued in the name of the payer.

Arrival and Departure

Sign In/Out
  • You must sign your child in and out daily
  • Your child cannot sign themselves in or out, regardless of their age or grade.

Only people authorized by you can pick your child up

You will be asked to provide a list of emergency contacts, and all adults authorized to pick up your child. Any one not listed will not be allowed to pick up your child, unless we have your permission in writing.  ID is required for emergency pick-up.

Schedule Changes & Absences

Schedule Changes

  • Any change to your child’s daycare schedule must be in writing.
  • Notify your daycare educator by email before noon and let your child’s teacher know your child will not be attending daycare. 
  • Daycare is not responsible once your child has left school premises.
  • If your foresee your child’s daycare schedule changing frequently, speak with your daycare staff to for solutions.

Absences

  • Sorry, but we cannot reimbursement if your child is off sick for less than one week, or on vacation.
  • If your child is absent due to illness for more than one week, fees may be adjusted with a medical note.

Medication

  • If your child requires medication, you must complete a Medication Form.
  • Only prescribed and labeled medication may be administered, following NFSB Policy JLCD.
  • Medications are securely stored.

Snacks

  • Sorry – we do not provide snacks or meals. Please send a healthy afternoon snack for your child
  • Your child may join the school breakfast program (if available). Registration required.
  • Due to severe allergies of some students, we are a PEANUT/NUT FREE school and daycare.

Holidays & Snow Days

We follow the school calendar and are closed on holidays, for two weeks in December, and for one week in March. We also close if school is cancelled due to dangerous road conditions – aka: “snow days”)

We do offer service on ped days – we are open from 7:30 to 5:30, with special trips or activities planned for these days. Registration is required. 

You will not be charged for days we are closed.

Code of Conduct

  • We follow the same policies and procedures as Centennial Park School.
  • All students and staff have the right to a safe and respectful environment.
  • Positive behaviour is recognized in classrooms, at home, with the principal, and in school-wide celebrations.
  • Core values: Respect, Trustworthiness, Caring, Fairness, Citizenship, and Responsibility.
  • These values apply at all times — in daycare, on the bus, at recess, in class, during lunch, outings, and extracurricular activities.

Daycare Parents’ Committee

  • The Daycare Parents’ Committee consists of three to five parents who use daycare services.
  • It is chaired by the School Setting Technician and Principal.
  • The Committee acts in an advisory role, sharing suggestions and recommendations about the daycare program with the Governing Board.

No Longer Need Daycare Services?

  • A two-week notice is required.
  • Fees are charged until the end of the two-week notification period.
  • You will have to complete a Withdrawal Form
  • Depending on daycare status, you may be invoiced for supervision fees for the remainder of the year.
